Join our fantastic team at one of the UK’s top outdoor education centres based near Tunbridge Wells on the Kent/East Sussex border.

We are currently looking for a Office Administrator/Receptionist, Chef/Cook, an Outdoor instructor for 2017 and trainee outdoor instructors for our BOLT programme. 

Office Administrator/Receptionist/Office Junior

We are looking for an excellent communicator and ‘multi-tasker’ with strong organisational, team work and IT skills. Applicants must be proactive and have high standards, stay calm under pressure and have excellent attention to detail.

Applicants must have a flexible approach and a positive attitude. Good customer service is required and applicants must have the ability to build working relationships with all visitors to the Centre and staff.

Salary: £12,893 – £14,293 (35 hours) or £11,051 – £12,251 (30 hours)

Contract details: 30-35 hours per week (times to be agreed but finish time will be 5pm), hours will include the occasional Saturday morning.

6 month probationary period.

Cook/Chef (from February 2018)

Come and work in our friendly lively kitchen in lovely surroundings at Bowles Outdoor Centre.  We have a 30 hour a week role but we will consider other availability.

We would also consider taking on a trainee/apprentice cook with an outstanding attitude to learning and customer service

30 hour per week role

30 hours per week, includes some weekends (an average of 2 per month), must be flexible with hours. Hours are allocated in advance via a monthly rota. Shifts are usually 7:00 – 14:30 or 12:00 – 19:30.

Minimum requirements

NVQ Level 2 or above + Basic Food Hygiene.
Applicants must be able to provide healthy food according to set menus and individual dietary requirements.
Own transport essential.

Permanent Outdoor Education Instructor 

Bowles is an outdoor centre and independent charitable trust located in a stunning venue at Bowles Rocks in the South East UK.  A leader in outdoor learning for schools and colleges, we also have a strong presence in the worlds of business learning & development and delivering recreational activities.

Bowles is a residential outdoor education centre with first class facilities including:

  • 2 dry ski slopes
  • Natural sandstone crag with 100+ climbs onsite
  • Indoor pool (used for kayak training and pool raft)
  • Ropes courses: High ropes, Low Ropes, Trapeze, Zip Wire, Jacob’s Ladder
  • Archery range
  • Offsite we offer mountain biking, orienteering and paddlesports

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A proven track-record of outdoor education delivery
  • A passion for developmental work with young people in the outdoors
  • Skiing or snowboarding instructor qualifications (or working towards)
  • A degree or equivalent

A range of qualifications from:

    • SPA or Southern Sandstone Award
    • BCU/UKCC level 2
    • Skiing qualification or personal skiing ability.
    • Lowland leader
    • Strong interpersonal skills and a professional approach

Highly Desirable

  • A degree or equivalent
  • D1 + E minibus entitlement
  • Youth work experience
  • Experience working in schools, ideally in a teaching capacity

Freelance Facilitators/Instructors

Bowles offers high quality residential programmes for schools & colleges, outdoor activities for the public and Learning and Development Programmes for businesses and organisations.

Bowles is looking for established outdoor professionals who are used to working with a range of clients from both corporate and educational settings. Qualifications (SPA, D1+E, APIOL) are valuable but more importantly we are looking for educators/facilitators with a friendly personality who are reliable, flexible and have a breadth of experience. Facilitation & reviewing skills within a professional development context would be advantageous.
